Where is Mark Udall on Health Care Reform?

August 27, 2009 · Matt Plavnick · No Comments

Mark Udall has made a grand total of zero (0) public appearances this August to discuss health care reform with constituents. To call this disappointing is to understate the matter.

Disclaimer: I did a little volunteer work for Udall’s 2008 Senate run against Bob Schaffer. Maybe some of you received postcards in my distinctive scrawl.

From his website, in his own words (question 2), the senator is “open to the public option. We need to see more of the details. And, finally the public option would be available for individuals, small businesses, anybody who doesn’t have access to an insurance plan at work or in other settings.”

Hmm. Not exactly a towering cry for open reform. I rather think the senator is hedging. The Denver Post gives us a $780K clue as to why. Mark Udall has received more money from the health care sector during his political tenure than any sitting politician in Colorado.

Perhaps in response to letters like this one, Senator Udall has made an effort to engage. If you can call it that. C’mon, Senator. At least check back to interact with the folks who comment on your Facebook page. More than a few of your supporters feel a little discouraged that the best we get from you are highlights from a tele-conference from July and an August op-ed that skirts the issue. Step up.
